SPAD's Transport Group
The SPAD transport group started in 2009, and continues to work on local transport issues with the Parish Council's Climate Action Transport Group and to encourage active transport and car sharing.
Buses
We conducted a questionnaire with villagers who use the bus and, along with other groups, lobbied First Bus Company to improve their service. The village gained a showcase bus route with a considerably improved service and lower fares. Unfortunately more recently Bus frequency has been reduced. SPAD members will continue to do what they can to improve the service.
Cycling
We are looking into ways to improve signage and access to the cycle routes to and from Bristol and Portishead. Our members have helped out with cycle path maintenance and improvements such as those along Bridge road and the path by St. Katherine's school. We are working the the Parish Council's Highways Subcommittee
Car Sharing
Would you be interested in hiring out a shared car for short trips? If so check out Co-Wheels Car Club, and follow this link to request a new Co-Wheels Car near your home. If enough people sign up we could get a car in the village. Suitable for shopping trips or days out.
Other ways of car sharing include:
Lift Share: register as a driver or passenger (or both) then list the journey you take and when you take it - the app matches you with other people on the database then you contact them and arrange to lift share. Suitable for regular commuting.
GoCarShare: sign up and advertise where you are going and what you are charging, or where you want lift to and what you are prepared to pay. Suitable or one off longer journeys.
Speed limit
The current campaign is for a 20 mph speed limit in the village. A petition was started in 2013 and by spring 2014 over 450 people had signed it. This has been presented to North Somerset Council who are in the final stages of research to approve this request.
