SPAD set up a village Repair Café in October 2021 to run once a month in the Pill Community Centre. From bikes & garden tools to soft toys & furniture, laptops & electricals to clothing & bric-a-brac, you can bring your broken items to be mended. The idea is to save money and cut down on waste.
We hold the event on the second Saturday each month. The next few Repair Cafés are Saturday 9 March, 11 May, 8 June, 13 July,
12 October and 9 November 2024 from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Pill Community Centre, Church Place, Pill, BS20 0AE. There is no Repair Café in April, August and December (September tbc).
Items must be portable, and capable of being repaired while you wait, observe and perhaps learn some new skills! You will have a chance to enjoy a cuppa and perhaps a bacon/egg roll or a cake and to catch up with friends whilst you wait for your turn. Some people just come for a cuppa and a natter.
We are always keen to sign up more volunteers, we are particularly looking for anyone who can repair electrical items (always a busy table!) but also general helpers. What better way to renew and re-use and avoid excesses going to landfill?
If you can spare a few hours a month to help other villagers by repairing their small household objects, in a friendly café environment or just help out on the day, please contact Rachel Harvey at sustainablepill@gmail.com.
The Repair Café movement started in the Netherlands in 2009 and there are lots of cafés now in the UK including several in the Bristol area.
